About the Scholarship: Heartland Power Cooperative is operated as a non-profit organization. This means that all money left over after the cost of providing electric service is returned to the members in the form of capital credits. When Heartland Power is unable to locate former members, their capital credits become unclaimed property. The State of Iowa allows Heartland Power to distribute the unclaimed capital credits to area schools in the form of scholarships.
